Yellow Moons, Orange Stars & Red Suns, Imagine.

The image map was a different project, the technical aspect i could wrap my head around, that made sense. I can understand code and imputing it (thanks to dynamic drive) where to put it so that i could get a pop up roll over on my html page. It was when it came to the creating writing part where i could see i had some trouble. Basic idea present two pictures alter them and give an opposition outlook from a to b. But what do i talk about? That was the real task for me, cause i had no where to go, often people find it harder to complete tasks with less structures and rule than with it, and in this project i was one of them. To be honest i don’t even know what i wrote about, and i guess my mark will reflect that. That’s where i wish we had a little structure if you had asked us to right about shoes, or socks or flip flops ( i don’t know why i’m on about feet?)

cause i kind of lost the point of how portray that creativity, literally and as cliche as it sounds i was at a lose for words. I think i ended up doing some sort of rhyme rap but at the end of it i wasn’t as confident of satisfied with it like i was my Google map. In terms of creative writing id love to tackle this project again with any random topic as a source for inspiration to write about. In terms of the code and the roll-over pop ups i feel that this is something i could use again in other projects.

Perhaps given the topic ‘Eclipse’ would of been the better sell… for this sun and moon theme, but i like ‘Money’ and maybe i’m not the most in depth fan of Pink Floyd but i know what i like and i like this… hopefully you will too.

I just re-listened to ‘Eclipse’ its pretty fuckin’ good, but all these albums are worth their waiting in good, green or whatever substance material you feed your vein’s or vanity.

Kid CudiMan on the Moon : The End of Day

Maybe it would make more sense to give you a song like ‘Day ‘n’ Nite’(Nightmare)… With the whole play on words, puns and cliches but thats lazy writing isn’t it.

Plus when an album earns you Best Album of 2009, its hard to do wrong. Here is a personal favourite off the album produced by Kanye West…..

Well after lookin’ at the track listings ‘Bad Sun’ seems like the right connection…. wrong I became a fan of The Bravery when they fist dropped the single ‘An Honest Mistake’ after that is was all up hill.

This though ‘The Sun and the Moon’ might just be my favourite album of theirs with great songs like ‘The Ocean’, ‘Time Won’t Let Me Go’ and ‘Bad Sun’… it doesn’t get better than this one….

(extra sun).. 2 good for 2 many reasons

Mmm-mmmm, That is a Tasty Map

The mind map experience was pretty fun, i have to admit and reading everyone,s take on the topic would drastically change, and the story would start to take on its own journey with everyone,s little piece added. But it really added a different dynamic to writing were used coming up with a beginning middle and end on out own, not having so many inputs from so many directions.

I think this could be used for a lot of things like advertising, and creative writing but i think formatted better i think this could be well utilized for group job interviews. The employer places an idea out there and each applicant can branch out with their own ideas on how to improve or help with that idea.

This project was kind of like those “Choose Your Own Adventure Books” (list of books) Where you would read and choose which pages to jump to depending on where you wanted your character to go.

Much like what Mad Libs did for the Noun, Verb and Adjective (not to be confused with rapper Madlib), mind maps do for the create planner. If that doesnt work for you try this “Story Generator” of “Wacky Web Tales”

Or like the age old geek-like-friday-night-indoor-junk-food-eating-pimple-women-repelling-ultimately-rulers-of-the-world-game… (Take a Guess)

When you look at it this is Mind Mapping at its best, starting off with one idea and then letting others join in the maddness your mind has made. If you don’t believe me ask James Franco aka Carlos..

I Used to Remember… Google Maps.

Posted in Digital Journal with tags , , , , , , , , on June 24, 2010 by J.J.

beginnings

The process of these Google Maps were more challenging than I initially thought. At first i was thinking it, this was just a point and click project, but as the project progressed it became a more in-depth program full of more options. Which subsequently became a little more overwhelming learning that there was more you could do with the program. This was a new way a writing for me, as there was a constant reminder of a location when a point was placed. This changed my writing style giving me a higher visual dynamic of where my characters were going and who they were meeting. When setting is established it helps change the focus of the writing.

middles

I am still having some problems transferring my project into dreamweaver but i think that problem can be easily remedied with some more time on dreamweaver. I wanted to make photoshopped pictures, giving the whole story a black and white, noir style feel to it, to help sell the emotion of story but i couldn’t figure how to embed the pictures onto the map without first having them on a website, so that became irritating. In the future i could see using Google Maps to accompany a blog site. With much more planning I feel Google Maps can be something more of an appetizer instead of a main course, it could help place a physicality to words on a page and or screen and stylized them.

I admit at first my non-linear story was not fully developed but as the story progressed ideas and new paths became to unfold, just like a mystery the places, actions, and events of this fictional story began to take shape in this real world. I really don’t know if this story has a solid end or beginning, or at the very least a strong narrative that will carry the reader from point to point. It is far from conventional but i think that was the point for this project, in any case there is a lot of middle and that usually where the fun in a story happens.

ends

I embedded my write-up in Maine, which is the title characters name and also gives the indication that this was the Main chunk of the project, and I just think it is always a cool idea when a small town private eye heads out into the unknown world. Much like my experience in Griffith. So my story plays out as private eye trying to build pieces of a case he has no business being in. Chasing a woman he has no business chasing, following leads that are more outrageous than the last leading him all over the world. There is some assembly between South America and Southern Asia but there is really no set format on how your should read this story.

overalls

My favourite part was translating the story into the language of the country the private eye was in. Originally i was going to leave you with that language without the English translation, making the story even more or a head scratcher but changed my mind when i couldn’t figure out to embed a translator onto Google Maps. I choose a lot of southern and distant countries places I have never been and would love to go, but if the language is any indication of what the country is like i need to brush up on my skills.

Here it is – Which Way Did S.H.E Go?

Compared to Facebook or MySpace, Google maps can be used as a new free based new technology. Another creative tool used for people to express their ideas, and opinions in their own innovation.
