The image map was a different project, the technical aspect i could wrap my head around, that made sense. I can understand code and imputing it (thanks to dynamic drive) where to put it so that i could get a pop up roll over on my html page. It was when it came to the creating writing part where i could see i had some trouble. Basic idea present two pictures alter them and give an opposition outlook from a to b. But what do i talk about? That was the real task for me, cause i had no where to go, often people find it harder to complete tasks with less structures and rule than with it, and in this project i was one of them. To be honest i don’t even know what i wrote about, and i guess my mark will reflect that. That’s where i wish we had a little structure if you had asked us to right about shoes, or socks or flip flops ( i don’t know why i’m on about feet?)

cause i kind of lost the point of how portray that creativity, literally and as cliche as it sounds i was at a lose for words. I think i ended up doing some sort of rhyme rap but at the end of it i wasn’t as confident of satisfied with it like i was my Google map. In terms of creative writing id love to tackle this project again with any random topic as a source for inspiration to write about. In terms of the code and the roll-over pop ups i feel that this is something i could use again in other projects.

Perhaps given the topic ‘Eclipse’ would of been the better sell… for this sun and moon theme, but i like ‘Money’ and maybe i’m not the most in depth fan of Pink Floyd but i know what i like and i like this… hopefully you will too.

I just re-listened to ‘Eclipse’ its pretty fuckin’ good, but all these albums are worth their waiting in good, green or whatever substance material you feed your vein’s or vanity.

Maybe it would make more sense to give you a song like ‘Day ‘n’ Nite’(Nightmare)… With the whole play on words, puns and cliches but thats lazy writing isn’t it.

Plus when an album earns you Best Album of 2009, its hard to do wrong. Here is a personal favourite off the album produced by Kanye West…..

Well after lookin’ at the track listings ‘Bad Sun’ seems like the right connection…. wrong I became a fan of The Bravery when they fist dropped the single ‘An Honest Mistake’ after that is was all up hill.

This though ‘The Sun and the Moon’ might just be my favourite album of theirs with great songs like ‘The Ocean’, ‘Time Won’t Let Me Go’ and ‘Bad Sun’… it doesn’t get better than this one….

Domain defined:
1.A territory over which rule of control is exercised.
2. A sphere of activity, concern, of function; a field
3. Physics any of numerous contiguous regions in a ferromagnetic material in which the direction of spontaneous magnetization is uniform and different from that in neighbouring regions
4. Law
                a. The land of one with paramount title and absolute ownership
                b. Public domain
5. Mathematics
                a. The set of all possible values of an independent variable of a function.
                b. An open connected set that contains at least one point.
6. Biology Any of three primary divisions of living systems, consisting of the eukaryotes, bacteria, and archaea, the rank above a kingdom in taxonomic systems that are based on similarities of DNA sequences.
7. Computer Science a group of networked computers that share a common communications address.

———r3d———–

And there we are lucky number 7 I didn’t know this all fell into the computer science umbrella well then.

Its all in a domain currently I’m under the umbrellas of two domains that help made their name by hosting others to showcase their talents. (Word press) and (Newformsreview) both established and professional in that they can turn the amateur (me) into someone that has a little credibility to their product ( my blog) and ( my portfolio)

But there will come a time when we all want to step out of the shadow and lead in out own light, but where to begin well the domain makes you accessible to a network that is linked up by the internet. But something as simple as a name can determine who’s clicking on you and what they were expecting to see…

Its all in the name the domain sets the tone, just like a business card this is the image you have your website portraying long before any content is scene. Sites like (great domain) help the amateurs choose names, give tips and even let them check if that name is available on the internet.

They say there are 3 Ingredients for a powerful domain name

1.Easy to perceive

2.Easy to pronounce

3.Easy to remember

But the rules don’t end there. (here)

Gives audience 25 golden rules to creating a domain that will work:

1. Stick with “.com” – If you are looking for a domain name for a business then it is even more important to choose a .com for your domain name because of the credibility boost that a .com domain name brings.

2. One Possible Spelling – Try to find a domain name that only has one possible spelling.

3. Shorter is Better – The shorter your domain name is then the easier it is for your visitors to remember.

4. Commercial Appeal – A quick way to test if your domain has commercial appeal or marketability is if you think that the domain name will look good up on a billboard or in a commercial.

5. No Hyphens – If at all possible then avoid using a hyphenated domain name.

6. Other Extensions – If you find the perfect domain name ending in .com then it usually makes sense to try and grab as many of the other common extensions that are available as well and then redirect those other extensions to your domain name that ends in .com.

7. Singular vs. Plural – Make sure that you set up a website on the domain name that makes the most sense when choosing between the singular and plural of the words in your domain name.

8. Price – To register a brand new domain name you will pay approximately $10 a year. To purchase domain name at an auction from someone looking to sell one of their existing domain names then you could pay anywhere from $5 to hundreds of thousands of dollars or even more plus the annual registration fees.

9. Keyword Rich – Choose a domain name that is full of keywords that are related to your website.

10. Type-In Traffic – Type-In traffic is when someone navigates directly to a website by simply typing in what they are looking for and then “.com” on the end into their URL bar in their browser.

11. Avoid Numeral Substitutions – Numerals in a domain can work ok but avoid substituting common words with numerals as they can often be confusing and hard to remember.

12. Avoid Slang – Stay away from slang spellings of words for the same reasons that you should stay away from numeral substitutions.

13. Watch Out for the Numeral “0″ – The numeral “0″ is often mistaken for the letter “O” and vice versa. Make sure that there is no confusion between the 2 in your domain name.

14. Brandable – 15 years ago know one knew who or what a “Google” was but now Google.com is an extremely valuable and very brandable domain name.

15. Easy to Type – The easier the domain is to type then the better the domain will be.

16. Easily Understood – When someone reads or hears your domain name for the first time then they should be able to easily understand what your website is all about.

17. Copyright Issues – Steer clear of domain names that are infringing on an existing copyright.

18. Unique – The more unique a domain name is then the easier it is to remember.

19. Use a Thesaurus – If you feel stuck when trying to choose your domain name then bring up 2 different tabs: open up Thesaurus.com

20. Search Dropped Domains – Dropped domains are domains that have just recently changed from registered status to unregistered status.

21. Memorable – If you can easily remember a domain name after hearing it just once then there is a good chance that you have found a memorable domain name.

22. Domain Auctions – Domain auctions can be great sources for finding bargain domain names.

23. Industry Jargon – While it is important to make sure that your domain name is easily understood by everyone who reads it, at the same time a good strategy can be to use industry jargon specific to your website niche for your domain name.

24. Brainstorm – If you have a business partner or a friend then use them to bounce some ideas around.

25. Start Now! – Start choosing a domain name as soon as you can before someone else snaps it up!

A domain sets the bar to that status symbol even before a letter is typed into the toolbar

Website, Woes, Moans and Swears

Website Woes

As per usual when launching a website your bound to have more problems to work out before its as smooth as you want it to be. At first just choosing a topic seems to be an issue but that quickly was remedied. I chose animal testing for two main reasons:

1) I’m a Michael Vick fan and i thought he got the raw end of the stick where P.E.T.A was concerned. Yes he did wrong, it was unthinkable to treat animals this way. But were talking about a southern culture that embraces this as a sport wrong or not its true. And its not so much the crime, he did wrong i can see that, but i don’t for a second believe that punishment suited the crime, drug dealers have gotten less jail time than Vick, but i digress. At least dude got some practice, maybe worked on his Longest Yard ? (burt reynolds) it beginsssss

2) this site was going to be(and eventually with the right re-tooling) was going to be the jump off platform for my “M. is Monkey” comic, having a propaganda site dedicated on the progression of animal testing, would help lead into this poor monkey getting tested on …. (look for the M. post)

content
Brief Overview:

All the content was original and was tongue in cheek about the importance of animal testing in the community. I went as far as to have Mr.T as a spokesperson for the organization. I think adding Mr. T gave the right amount of humour i wanted to the project, especially when I had him saying “I pity the fool who doesn’t endorse animal testing!”  Not following in the steps of P.E.T.A & Stop Animal Tests, I am dedicating my website to the fight FOR animal testing.

“Who are we not to test our animals.”

Using P.E.T.A as a jump off point my website is designed to encourage those to want animal testings. S.E.T.A (Standardized Examination Tests on Animals) Focusing on standardized testing the pages are divided by animals.

  • Homepage
  • Rodents (Rats, Mice)
  • Household (Rabbits, Cats, Dogs)
  • Cattle (Cows, Sheep, Chickens)

Urging the public to want to test our animals more with Literacy Tests, Multiple Choice and Essay Questions. There will be “government” issued sample questions, and the new S.E.T.A issued scantron.

The Extra tabs will be

  • Advertising
  • Links
  • Social Network (link It)
  • Merchandise
  • F.A.Q

Each page will include an information on why set animal should be tested regularly.

loading of images
again at the beginning I was having problems uploading gif’s but after some trial and error, I managed to get the images the size and placing I wanted. Then i was having trouble loading the html’s onto filezilla, and when opened nothing would load into the browsers… yea that problem never really got fixed.

linking
I spent more time linking other pieces to the website to help enhance the message of whatever page it was on. I feel that went over the best, as it was a comical contrasted website at least that was the hope, so anyplace i could stick in a joke or a link to a funny picture, i was all about it.

swearing
i said fcuk, siht, dman, during this process oh sorry for the typos fuck shit damn. swearing usually only happens when things are going wrong, lucky for me that happened a few times on this project.

Overall
i thought this project was fun but time consuming when it came down to imputing the different code and transferring pictures to the website. I spent a majority of time using photoshop and dreamweaver cohesively to get the website up. Again the worst problems happen after the project was completed with uploading, and reloading and neverloading.

Mmm-mmmm, That is a Tasty Map

Posted in Digital Journal with tags , , , , , , , on June 24, 2010 by J.J.

The mind map experience was pretty fun, i have to admit and reading everyone,s take on the topic would drastically change, and the story would start to take on its own journey with everyone,s little piece added. But it really added a different dynamic to writing were used coming up with a beginning middle and end on out own, not having so many inputs from so many directions.

I think this could be used for a lot of things like advertising, and creative writing but i think formatted better i think this could be well utilized for group job interviews. The employer places an idea out there and each applicant can branch out with their own ideas on how to improve or help with that idea.

This project was kind of like those “Choose Your Own Adventure Books” (list of books) Where you would read and choose which pages to jump to depending on where you wanted your character to go.

Much like what Mad Libs did for the Noun, Verb and Adjective (not to be confused with rapper Madlib), mind maps do for the create planner. If that doesnt work for you try this “Story Generator” of “Wacky Web Tales”

Or like the age old geek-like-friday-night-indoor-junk-food-eating-pimple-women-repelling-ultimately-rulers-of-the-world-game… (Take a Guess)

When you look at it this is Mind Mapping at its best, starting off with one idea and then letting others join in the maddness your mind has made. If you don’t believe me ask James Franco aka Carlos..

Dynamic Drinkin’ and Drivin’

Posted in Digital Journal with tags , , , , , , on June 24, 2010 by J.J.

“Dynamic Drive” is the new bible, funny enough that in the technological age this bible is online. Mainly used for web based and design based programs dynamic drive aims to make the impossible look easy helping with tricks, codes and how-to’s for any user to step up their skill base.

In terms of what i would use, my technological outlook is growing so flash and dreamweaver skills are a must learn. Anyone who can understand and alter code for websites is plus i feel in the job market as more and more products take an online approach to selling, promoting and sharing.

But at the end of the day i really want to have my hands in design, i don’t know what i would be designing but to me that’s where i feel my creativity can merge with a business sense and in today’s global market you have to at least understand both sides of the coin if not able to navigate through them.

“Dynamic Drive” allows an amateur like me to at least compete with professionals on their level giving me user friendly tips and tricks to create masterpieces. We have to touch on the free source aspect of “Dynamic Drive” and other programs that i feel are giving the power back to the user. Understanding initially the internet wasn’t built for the average person but as it grows and becomes more accessible we are seeing more free source programs and “Dynamic Drives” helping and sharing, instead of capitalizing on that user.

Its like hackers converging on a forum sharing information for other hackers….  hacker you say.. that was a good movie…. hmmm
